For me, this simple photograph is incredibly powerful, poignant and evocative. It's of the Nottingham Forest football team circa 1980 pictured with the European Cup (now the Champion's League) that they had won for the second time in two years. They remain the only British team (much to my delight Manchester United fans) to have achieved this feat.

It's my turn to blog so I'm going be a little self indulgent and take the opportunity to blog about one of my passions. I started to write a philosophical blog about 'the impatience of the reader', but that one can wait...

I'm a keen road cyclist and I was recently in the market for a new bike. There were many different brands of road bikes in my price range, all offering essentially the same things, most manufactured in the Far East and badged in Europe or the States.
I agonised about my choices for months. I read endless reviews, blogs and forums and bored my cycling friends to tears with my observations about frame sizing and component specifications. I knew I wanted to ride something with a bit of racing heritage; something distinctive and something that stood out from the pack.

Not a headline one expects to see in these challenging times with funding pots being shrunk or 'diverted' towards other causes other than the heritage sector. But is it all doom and gloom for interpretation? Not necessarily: for the creative interpreter there's a fantastic array of media available today, and much of it at a comparatively low cost.
There are the headline acts, such as apps for smart phones (for example http://www.vimeo.com/8866765) and augmented reality, which present exciting and genuinely innovative (there's an overused word if ever there was one) ways to tell a story. But let's not forget the supporting cast when considering the interpretive mix for your site or collection.

Check out this recent advertising campaign for a movie that came out last year called The House Of The Devil, it was a low budget independent movie and they developed these beautiful designs that had an almost 80's feel to them - braver than a lot of mainstream Hollywood poster designs around at the moment, and the retro designs have provoked a lot of excitement in movie-goers.
A strong visual campaign has the power to get people talking, even if they are not in the profession, and with retro graphics style making a comeback, hopefully this nostalgia will encourage more people to appreciate this style of graphic image making. To promote the film further the company even sent out copies on VHS - now thats cool.

Hi David here, and I'm very excited about the news we can now share of our sucess in tendering for the Portico Project in Chester.
