From Dukes and engineers to underground canals and floating waterways, discover the fascinating heritage and wildlife of the Bridgewater canal.
The Bridgewater Canal: A Waterside Trail app, developed for Salford City Council, takes you on a historic journey along the Bridgewater canal. Built with our ‘i-explore’ app engine, the app identifies points of interest nearest and helps visitors discover the history of the surrounding area. Each location is accompanied by stories and facts, historic images, audio clips and brain-teasing challenges.

Designed for individuals, friends and families, the app offers five trails, based on the villages that the canal passes through. Each trail has its own distinct feel, from the green space and leisure of Boothstown and Monton, to the mills, factories and railways of Patricroft. Families can play together to create a new experience mediated through the technology in which they work together to seek out the stories behind the canal’s history.
The Bridgewater Canal: A Waterside Trail app is available on the iTunes store.
