Imagemakers in Utrecht

I have recently returned from a fascinating ‘Portico’ project meeting in Utrecht at the invitation of Cheshire West and Chester. Portico is an EU funded scheme to pilot and promote economic development in historic cities. Chester, the UK partner, have invited Imagemakers to participate as their interpretation advisers – the result being a short trip to Utrecht, Holland, to discuss ‘time travel’ and the use of new technology to tell the story of very old cities. Museums Association: Go Digital Conference Part 2

The afternoon of the Museum Association’s ‘Go Digital’ conference brought further interesting speakers and subsequent food for thought. Sarah Angliss (complete with scary talking doll), a musician and robotics engineer, spoke passionately about the need to consider the interpretive potential of physical, as well as artificial, computing. I was fortunate enough to attend the Museum Association’s ‘Go Digital: New trends in electronic media’ conference in London-town this week. It proved to be an interesting and worthwhile professional forum, reinforcing the central role that digital technology has to play within our interpretive schemes and exhibitions, speculating as to its broad potential and providing a timely reminder of the pitfalls we must all work hard to avoid.
