Edinburgh – World Heritage City App

Edinburgh - World Heritage City

Have you been to Edinburgh? If so you’ve probably experienced the stunning edifice of Edinburgh Castle, the throng of tourist shops of the Royal mile and the hub-bub of Princes Street but have you seen the tranquil setting of Dean Village, the grandeur of Riddle’s Court and discovered the final resting place of Adam Smith?

Unlike a traditional city guide, the Edinburgh – World Heritage City app, commissioned by Edinburgh World Heritage and funded by Historic Scotland, encourages people to go further into the area and into the deep history and stories that lie behind the architecture. It would be a tragedy if visitors to this great city had their heads buried in their phones as they walked around which is why this app has been developed as a game where visitors need to engage with and observe their surroundings.

The Edinburgh – World Heritage City app is powered by our ‘i-explore’ app engine which uses a gaming element to encourage visitors to explore the capital further and compete with other visitors to who can accumulate the most points. At each point visitors learn more about the history of the area by reading facts, viewing photos, listening to audio clips and answering bonus questions to score points.  The app also allows visitors to post photos to a gallery online, upload comments, send a postcard to a friend and share their visit on Facebook and Twitter.

Edinburgh – World Heritage City app is available on the iTunes store.
