WildSpy: Walk in the Woods

WildSpy: Walk in the Woods brings a fun and informative dimension to a family walk – whatever the time of year.

30 different species are waiting to be spotted in an I-Spy-type game that up to 4 people can play. Topics include flowers, trees, insects, mammals and birds. Quirky rhyming text and high resolution imagery (with zoomability to get in really close) provide identifying information and, where appropriate, sound effects give the final confirmation – useful when there may be a debate about whether it’s a robin and not a blackbird singing high up on a hawthorn bush (which is also one of the species to spot). For those wanting to take their knowledge to a higher level, we’ve also put in a link to Wikipedia to find out more.

i-explore logoAs well as competing to be the first to spot the robin (or one of the other species) and score points for doing just that there’s also the opportunity to increase the score by correctly answering a question about the little critter. As scores mount the tension builds to a exuberant conclusion – and the game can be played again on the next visit to the woods to see if the champion can be knocked off his or her perch (or out of the tree which is probably more appropriate)!

“I can see the interpretive planning underpinning the WildSpy App, and the fact that it is a tool developed specifically with the platform in mind and not a regurgitation of images, videos and text that can be found online as others are. I particularly like the competitive, social element.”
